Perhaps it was inevitable, yet Ford has created its first performance SUV with the 2019 Edge ST average size crossover, which goes on sale this late spring with a twin-turbocharged V-6 motor and a new look shared with whatever is left of the revived Edge lineup. Passage has revived the 2019 Edge’s outside and interior, and added 5 hp to the standard EcoBoost 2.0-liter turbo-four motor. For the 2019 model year, Ford has presented the Edge lineup with the new Edge ST that replaces the Sport model and is controlled by an EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 and accompanies allwheel drive standard. Adding the first ST to the SUV lineup underscores, indeed, that Ford is a truck company—a point it keeps on punctuating with each new vehicle launch. The F-Series is its bread and spread, and the range is expanding with the addition of a diesel-controlled F-150 coming this mid year and the hotly anticipated Ford Ranger moderate size pickup. Equally key are SUVs. Passage sold almost 800,000 SUVs last year and has no expectation of moderating the pace.
